Competition Scene
2003
Heading into the tail end of 2003, it's been an interesting year for tournament
paintball in Western Australia. After a slow start to the year, following a year
that was a virtual write-off tournament wise, the tournament seen has rebounded.
The Ex-Presidents committed to participating in the APPL series, only to have the
series cancel due to over-riding political issues. Whilst the APPL series was up and
running, so were the Ex-Presidents, winning 2 amateur titles, in Adelaide and Brisbane.
W.A. has had a strong presence on the national scene. Ex-Presidents competing in the
amateur series, Kaos competing in the pro series, WASP making the trip to Adelaide, and
W.A. players on the rosters for a lot of the top teams (Jetts, Firestorm, SWAT). New regional
team X-syte have also made their presence fealt.
On the local scene, KAOS are to be congratulated for their efforts to revive the local
tournament circuit. They have been instrumental in running or otherwise assisting in
every local tournament this year.
WASP have made a comeback - demonstrating that they are one of the most consistent strong
performers on the local tournament scene. The new regional teams have jumped in the deep end
and shown that it doesn't take 10 years of experience to hammer as a team. and NSC have earned
the name No Show C#*&@! for not turning up at the recent Sup-Air tournament. :)
2001
As at the end of 2001 West Australia has a vibrant competitive paintball scene. A West Australian team (Adrenalin Rush) have just won the APPL amateur series, other WA teams have also competed nationally, and the there have been over 6 tournaments held locally during the course of the year.
Teams that have been strong in local scene have wained, other teams have peaked in terms of performance; teams have disbanded and new teams have formed.
There are two divisions in W.A. Paintball, Amateur and Professional. Top performers in the Amateur division have been FireStorm, and Rapture. Rapture losing a tense game in the finals to Firestorm for the last tournament of the season. In that game one of the Rapture players popped their keecap (ouch) sliding into a barricade,
then stayed in the game only to take out their own front man. And if Dman ever delivers on the video, you'll be able to see the action.
In the Pro division Adrenalin have made a consistently strong showing over the year, with
a late in the season dominance by Tyranny (winning the last two tournaments for the season). WASP,
while not performing well this year are still a force to be recond with. Teams to watch are the Ex-Presidents and KAOS. Kaos,
with a commitment to playing a full season in the APPL will be in an environment that should give them the 'edge' that takes them from a top four placing to a first place.
